It was rare to witness a traffic accident. It’s now almost common to see one every other day. This is a noticeable increase in collisions compared to years ago. We reached out to legal experts and road users for their opinions on this increase in collisions. Continue reading to see what they had to share.

Economic Distress, Less Driving Practice
1. Fewer car accidents means less driving. Remote work, the decreased rate teens get their drivers’ licenses and lax licensing standards in many States (road tests were waived for most of the pandemic), all contribute to the fact that today’s drivers are less experienced and less qualified.
2. Lax law enforcement. Many police departments saw the combination of COVID, anti-police unrest and decreased enforcement in high-crime areas. These areas also saw an increase of car-related crimes such as street racing, vandalism and crashes.
3. Economic distress. People in financial distress are more likely than others to drive when they are drunk, distressed or impaired. They also have more time to be involved in accidents while not working.
Increased Traffic, Distracted Driving
There are many factors that contribute to the rise in car accidents. More people are driving and we have more distractions than ever before. You can use your phone, work from your car, check your social media, and do many other tasks all while driving your vehicle. As we shift to being car-reliant, roads have not been able to cope with the increased traffic.

Simple Access to Built-In Media
Driver inattentiveness is responsible for the recent rise in accidents. Smartphones and instant information are the primary focus of the driver, while the road is second. It appears that car manufacturers’ desire to reduce this problem by incorporating smart media into their cars has only exacerbated the problem.
Congestion, Distracted Drivers and Irresponsible Driving
Car accidents are on the rise for many reasons. The increasing number of cars on the roads is one of the major contributing factors. More cars means more congestion and more accidents.
Distracted driving is also a growing trend. Drivers are more likely to use their phones or other devices while driving. Distracted driving is a major cause of accidents as it distracts drivers from the road, increasing the chance of making mistakes.
Another factor contributing to an increase in car accident deaths is aggressive driving and speeding. Many drivers are driving faster and more aggressively to reach their destinations, despite having a busy schedule and longer commute times. Accidents can also result from this.
