Singapore Convention Week 2023 : Addressing the Future of International Dispute Resolution
Digital advances have made it easier for businesses around the world, including in the United Kingdom (UK), to collaborate with partners abroad. This global connectivity can bring many benefits but also lead to more friction. To help businesses overcome these challenges, a robust framework for international dispute resolution must be in place. This framework should constantly evolve to meet the changing business environment.
There are no two conflicts that are the same, and there can be many ways to resolve them. Each dispute has a variety of contexts and background issues to be considered, from economics to culture to politics. Although litigation is the most common form of dispute settlement, it isn’t the only one. Arbitration and mediation, which are ADR mechanisms for alternative dispute resolution, are becoming more popular among disputing parties.
Singapore Convention Week, a week-long flagship event organized by Singapore’s Ministry of Law in collaboration with partner organisations, was based on this premise. This event is a global forum where leading legal experts and partners from around the world can converge to discuss, network and exchange ideas about the latest trends and development in international dispute settlement. SC Week 2023, with its diverse lineup of legal and dispute-resolution events, offers UK businesses and professionals valuable insights. The UK has recently signed on to the Singapore Convention on Mediation.
