The lawsuit was filed by over 30 US states, on behalf of more than 21 million customers. It claimed that users would have been able to pay less for apps, and receive a wider range of choices, if Alphabet’s subsidiary had not monopolized the market.
Attorneys for the Attorney General of Utah, who is the state that leads the claimants, along with the other parties, requested the cancellation of the trial scheduled for 6th November. The court must approve the settlement. Details were not revealed.
Google’s lawyers and the company (which denied any wrongdoings in the lawsuit) have declined to comment about the settlement.
Tech giant Google is facing similar lawsuits alleging that it used illegal tactics to maintain its monopoly on the smartphone market in terms of selling Android apps and making in-app purchases. Google is accused of forcing some apps to use its payment services, giving it a 30% cut of the digital sales.
