Chief Judge Miranda M. Du of the United States District Court for District of Nevada announced that Maximiliano Couvillier III had been selected to fill the vacancy left by V. Cam Ferenbach’s retirement as United States Magistrate judge in Las Vegas.
Couvillier is a founding member of Kennedy & Couvillier PLLC. Before establishing Kennedy & Couvillier PLLC he worked as a partner with Lionel Sawyer & Collins, and a managing partner with Black & LoBello. Couvillier was the General Counsel of the Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada from 2011-2013, and then the President of its Board of Director (2014-2023). He was also president of the Nevada Latino Bar Association, and chair of State Bar of Nevada Litigation Section.
The California Western School of Law awarded him a law degree with a high honors, and he also received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science at the University of California at San Diego, Thurgood Marshall College.
Couvillier will take up the position of U.S. magistrate judge on January 8, 2024. The appointment term is eight years.
