Jay Henderlite – The Family Philosophy

John “Jay”, Henderlite III, as the managing partner at Watson Henderlite Family Law sets the bar high for excellence in the legal field. John “Jay” Henderlite, III is a prominent figure in the legal profession because of his board certification, commitment to clients and dedication to the advancement of the field.

Henderlite has earned a reputation for being a distinguished expert. He is a board certified in family and marital law by the Florida Bar Association. This achievement is only given to those with exceptional knowledge and expertise in their practice area. This certification not only signifies a thorough understanding of the law, but also a commitment to the highest ethical standards. Henderlite’s certification is a testament to his knowledge of Florida’s complex family law statutes, and to his ability to offer sound legal advice on a wide range of issues including divorce and child custody as well as spousal maintenance and property division.

It has always been my goal that my clients leave my office better off than they were when they came.

Henderlite has dedicated himself to helping his clients and is a respected authority on family law.

Henderlite says, “I spent a year working for a law office right after college to ensure that was what I wanted”. “I loved the intellectual aspect, solving problems, and creating effective arguments. But most importantly, I liked working with people.” I have always wanted my clients to leave my office better off than they were when they came.

Henderlite’s years of experience as a lawyer have allowed him to develop his skills and become an expert advocate in complex family law matters. A favorite professor at law school inspired him to concentrate on family law.

He says that his favorite professor in family law was him. “I was drawn to family law because it covers so many different legal areas. It is unique because it’s the one area of law that’s always changing. You have to be able to understand a variety of laws and situations. Plus, you get to really know your clients and feel like you are helping them.

In 2018, Denise Watson and the two of them began building what has become one of Florida’s most prestigious and sought-after family law practices. They have created a firm that is not only successful but also has a great reputation. This is because they share the same vision and philosophy for their firm, as well as an accessibility philosophy for clients. Both attorneys are sensitive to the fact that family law cases can be highly emotional and personal.

Watson says, “I’ve never met a person who didn’t have wonderful things to share about Jay. This includes judges and other attorneys.” Watson says, “He is a Wake Forest graduate who served as a member of the Law Review. This is a very prestigious position.

She continues: “I just spoke with an old colleague this morning, who had referred Jay to a client. He was so happy saying Jay hit it out the park.”

Special Partnership

The two share mutual admiration and respect for each other, but they also have similar philosophies. They have built a unique relationship over the years.

Henderlite says, “I believe that what makes us special is the amount of experience we bring to each other.” Denise probably has been practicing family laws for many years longer than she would like to admit, while I am a board-certified specialist in family law. We like to get acquainted with our clients, which is why we call ourselves “the family law firm who treats you like family”. We don’t just focus on their legal needs, but also what they are looking for in terms of quality of life and future. We do our best to achieve that, whether it’s through mediation or trial.

Both partners have worked to alleviate the uncertainty and pain of their clients, bringing their years of combined experience and dedication to every case into play.

Our philosophy is that family law can be a very personal field of law. We like to always be accessible to our clients, whether it’s by phone or email. They know they can reach us at any time. We can maintain this relationship with clients by keeping our caseloads small.

He adds, “You need to wear many hats in family law.” We’re not only their legal representatives, but we sometimes have to be counselors and quasi-therapists. It is important to listen carefully to your client and to be able not only to give them legal advice, but also to try to calm down their fears.

Comfort and Compassion

These partners believe that building a relationship with their clients is essential to providing the best service. This attitude is reflected even in their offices. Their unique office is located in the Cathedral District. It’s a beautiful old house that has been renovated to provide their staff and customers with luxurious comfort.

Henderlite says, “This home was built in 1904 and is located just a few blocks from the downtown area. I believe it reflects both of our personalities.” It’s truly majestic and nestled in the Cathedral District, which was the area that was rebuilt first after the fire. I am on the board for Cathedral District Jacksonville which is a nonprofit organization that revitalizes this part of downtown.

The house features stained-glass windows, rich wood mouldings, and architecture which speaks to the rich heritage of Jacksonville.

He adds, “Being a part of this redevelopment gives you the feeling that you are making a positive difference.” “By being here, we are helping to keep the commerce in this area.”

Family Man

Henderlite is devoted to his work and to serving his clients. However, he also enjoys a private and relaxed life. His son is raised by him and his husband Christopher Collinsworth.

Henderlite says, “We adopted Baylen at the age of eight.” “He is an incredible kid. We enjoy Broadway shows, traveling and just spending time together. “I am very lucky.”

Why Board Certification?

Henderlite decided to go the extra mile despite not being required to be board certified to practice law.

Henderlite: “I always try to improve.” As I said, family law changes constantly and it is important to keep up with the times and broaden your knowledge. “My clients put their futures into my hands and I owe them my best.”

Watson Henderlite Family Law will continue to serve their clients the best way they can, by getting to understand them and representing their needs to the best of our ability. They hope to give their clients hope for the future.

I always strive to improve. “… I am responsible for the future of my clients, so I must do my best.”
