Justice Elissa F. Cadish, who officially succeeded Justice Lidia S. Stiglich in 2024 as Chief Justice, took over the Nevada Supreme Court on Tuesday, January 2, 2024.
Chief Justices have a wide range of duties, including being the administrative head of Nevada Judiciary and the public face of Nevada Supreme Court.
Chief Justice Cadish said, “I’m proud and humbled that I have been given the responsibility to serve as Chief Justice of Nevada Supreme Court.” “Justice Stiglich did an admirable job in this important role and I’m grateful to follow in her capable footsteps.”
“We will continue our focus on ensuring that all Nevadans have access to justice, including timely, consistent, and fair rulings in every case and procedures which make sense to parties and the public,” continued Chief Justice Cadish.
Justice Cadish was nominated by the former Nevada Governor Jim Gibbons to fill a District Court vacancy at the Eighth Judicial District Court in Clark County in 2007. She presided over both civil and criminal cases. She was elected to Nevada Supreme Court in 2018. Her term began on January 7, 2019 as part of Nevada’s first female majority Nevada Supreme Court. She is currently the co-chairwoman of the Nevada Supreme Court’s Access to Justice Commission. She also serves on the Nevada Children’s Commission, the Court Improvement Program Select Committee, and the Board of Nevada Judicial Historical Society.
