Judge Suzan Baucum hails from Nevada. She graduated from Western High School in Las Vegas and received her undergraduate degree in Political Science at Macalester College, St. Paul, Minnesota. She received her Juris Doctorate at the University of Idaho, where she was the Notes and Comments editor of the Idaho Law Review.


In 2010, Judge Suzan Baucum was first elected to the bench. Judge Baucum served as Justice of the Peace in Department 13 of the Las Vegas Justice Couty until today. From January 2019 through December 2019. She was the Chief Justice of Las Vegas Justice Court.


Judge Baucum was responsible for overseeing the largest DUI county caseload in the country for nearly a decade. He was proud to have instituted many technologies that helped reduce recidivism and saved lives. Judge Baucum also served as Judge Pro Tempore at the Las Vegas Municipal Court, and the North Las Vegas Justice Court.

Before her tenure at Department 13, Judge Baucum served as the Executive Director of Nevada Law Foundation for 19 years. This non-profit group was dedicated to serving the legal and social needs of Nevada’s poor and indigent citizens.


Judge Baucum’s legal career includes prosecuting criminal and civil cases with the Ada County Prosecutor’s office. After graduating from law school, she began her career with a Reno-based firm. She was responsible for criminal, personal injury, and general business matters during her time at this firm. Judge Baucum also served as a National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges State Training Specialist and Staff attorney.


Judge Baucum believes and continues to believe that she should be an active member of her profession and her local community. She is a Fellow of the American Bar Association and a member of Clark County Bar Association, State Bar of Nevada, as well as a Colleague of Nevada Law Foundation. Co-chair of Criminal Justice Coordinating Council, she has been a member. She is a member of the Child Assault Prevention Project’s Board of Directors, the Eighth Judicial District Pro Bono Foundation and the board of directors of the Las Vegas Dance Stars.

Judge Suzan Baucum has been a volunteer for the Red Cross and Jerry Lewis Telethon, United Blood Service, American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, United Blood Service, United Blood Service, United Blood Service, United Blood Service, United Blood Service, and United Blood Service. She was also a Court Appointed Specialist Advocate (CASA), for children in need of protection from the courts, and a counselor at Lincoln House, a home for unwed mother in St. Paul, Minnesota. She was a room mother for her children’s school for many years and also directed the school pageant.


Judge Baucum also reads to elementary school children on a regular basis and spends hours providing information to area youth about the dangers of diving under the influence.
