The U.S. District Court for the District of Nevada issued a statement on September 15, 2022 reminding the public that federal courts don’t place calls or emails asking for money to avoid arrest.
This press release was issued to address a scam that is affecting citizens across the U.S. including Nevada. Scammers threaten to prosecute their victims if they fail to pay a bond, show up for a hearing or serve as jurors. Targets may be forced to give confidential information or make an immediate payment.
The Nevada federal courts want the public to know that fraudulent calls can be made. The courts won’t ask for sensitive information over the phone or request payment.
