INDIANAPOLIS (IN)–A jury in Indianapolis has ruled in favor of Illumination International LLC, a Lafayette, Indiana-based company, against Vannin Healthcare Global Ltd. for $3.3 million. Vannin was found to have breached a contract to provide 705,000 boxes of nitrile gloves to Illumination at the height of the pandemic. The trial took place in the Indiana Commercial Court’s courtroom. On December 14, 2022, the jury returned its verdict.
Vannin Healthcare Global, an international distributor of medical supplies and equipment, is based in the Isle of Man. This British Crown dependency lies in the Irish Sea between England & Ireland. Illumination International LLC, a Lafayette-based importer of medical supplies owned by Rick Li, is based in Indiana. Cause No. 49D01-2103 – PL-9067 at the Indiana Commercial Court
Illumination paid Vannin $2.8million in November 2020 as a down payment for the 705,000 boxes medical gloves. Vannin had promised to deliver the gloves within 40 days. Vannin did not deliver the gloves and refused to pay Illumination $2.8 million in down payment. This led to the lawsuit. Witnesses and testimony were provided by witnesses from Florida, Vietnam, Cambodia and Spain.
In 2016, the Indiana Commercial Courts were established to handle commercial and business disputes. These Courts were created to improve efficiency and predictability in Indiana’s business litigation.
Illumination anticipates that Judge Welch will enter a final judgement on Friday, December 16, 2022. The final judgment will amount to $4.4 million, including interest. Illumination’s attorney admits that it will be difficult to collect the judgment from Isle of Man.
