Nevada Supreme Court Justice Lidia Stiglich announced on December 19, 2022 that the Nevada Commission on Judicial Selection had taken action to address the urgent requirement to have enough qualified applicants to fill the four vacancies on its Eighth Judicial District bench. Justice Stiglich stated that there were nine applicants for three vacant seats and that the Commission had voted to extend their application period to address the lackluster response by the Bar.

The Clark County District Court Commission on Judicial Selection approved a prolongation of the deadline for applications for vacant positions. The January 18, 20,23 deadline allows applicants to apply for Departments 7, C and N. Any applicant interested in applying will need to contact Ms. Margarita Bautista at [email protected] to receive the needed application materials.

The vacancy in Department 7 results from the election by the Honorable Linda Bell for Supreme Court Seat A. The Department 29 vacancy was made public on Friday, December 15, 2022. This was an addition to the nomination process. The Honorable David Jones will retire in mid-January 2023, and Department 29 will be vacant. The Honorable Rebecca Burton resigned at the end this month to fill the Department C vacancy. The Honorable Mathew Harter’s November death resulted in the Department N vacancy.

Nevada lawyers with at least 10 years’ legal experience (including two years in Nevada) are encouraged to apply. Interviews for the vacancies will take place in February in Las Vegas. Interviews will be live streamed online and open to the public. The Commission will then nominate three finalists to each vacancy for Governor-Elect Joe Lombardo.
