Donald Trump Names British TV Producer Behind The Apprentice as UK Special Envoy.

US president-elect Donald Trump has announced the appointment of British television producer Mark Burnett as his special envoy to the United Kingdom.

Mr. Burnett, aged 64, is known for his collaboration with Mr. Trump on the American television series, The Apprentice, which significantly contributed to the president-elect’s global fame through its format of eliminating contestants competing for positions within his enterprises.

The president-elect’s initial campaign in 2016 faced scrutiny due to allegations regarding his behavior on The Apprentice and other NBC appearances, particularly concerning controversial remarks about women. The 78-year-old president-elect commended Mr. Burnett for “creating and producing some of the biggest shows in Television History,” noting his impressive achievement of winning 13 Emmy Awards.

A spokesperson for Mr. Burnett conveyed to Variety that he is “truly honoured to serve The United States of America and President Trump as his Special Envoy to the United Kingdom.” Mr. Burnett’s responsibilities will include enhancing diplomatic relations, with a focus on trade, investment opportunities, and cultural exchanges, as outlined in the statement.

This announcement follows Mr. Trump’s nomination of businessman Warren Stephens to be the United States ambassador to the UK, set to take office after his inauguration on January 20. Additionally, earlier this week, Sir Keir Starmer appointed Labour veteran Lord Mandelson as the UK’s ambassador to the United States.
