Kim Kardashian Reflects on Her Short Marriage to Kris Humphries and the Engagement Ring Controversy.
In a recent episode of The Kardashians, Kim Kardashian, 44, took a moment to reflect on her brief marriage to Kris Humphries, 40, and the engagement ring that came with it.
Their marriage, which lasted only 72 days in 2011, was widely publicized, and it seems that there’s still one lingering regret that Kim holds onto today.
The Engagement Ring Story
As she chatted with her sister Khloé Kardashian, Kim reminisced about the engagement rings she’s received over the years. Kim shared her thoughts on what shape her “next ring” might be, hinting at her ongoing desire for something meaningful and personal.
When reflecting on her first marriage to Damon Thomas, Kim mentioned her 14-karat cushion-cut ring. But it was her second engagement ring, given by Kris Humphries, that became the subject of an interesting story.
Kim revealed that Humphries proposed with an 18-karat emerald-cut ring from Lorraine Schwartz, but she didn’t keep it after their divorce.
According to Kim, the reason she had to give the ring back was due to a demand from Kris during the divorce process. Kim also dropped a surprising revelation: she had actually purchased the ring herself, with Kris only contributing a fifth of the cost.

“I didn’t keep that,” Kim said, recalling how, while pregnant with her daughter North West, Kris demanded the ring back. “He contributed a fifth,” she clarified, adding, “I was pregnant with North, still married to him, and in order to divorce him, he said I had to give him the ring.”
This revelation left Kim’s hairstylist and close friend Chris Appleton shocked, calling it “savage.”
A Difficult Divorce and Apologies
Kim and Kris’s quick divorce left many wondering about the emotional toll it took on both parties. In a rare admission, Kim reflected on how she handled the breakup in a way that she regrets.
She shared that, during their marriage, she had felt pressured to go through with the wedding due to the spotlight of Keeping Up with the Kardashians and the reality of the televised wedding.
“I thought, ‘Okay, we’re filming this for a TV show. If I leave, I’m going to be known as the runaway bride forever,’” Kim explained. “So I was like, ‘Okay guys, it’s just cold feet, I got this, it’s cold feet, we’re filming the show.’”
In hindsight, she admitted to “handling it totally the wrong way” and expressed regret for how she broke up with Kris. “I was so nervous to break up with someone,” Kim confessed. “I fully broke up with him in the worst way, and I couldn’t… I just didn’t know how to deal. I learned so much from it,” she added, acknowledging that she owes Kris an apology for the way the divorce played out.
The Humor in the Situation
Despite the emotional undertones of the conversation, Kim showed her usual sense of humor, joking about the possibility of reconnecting with Kris Humphries after her sister Khloé revealed her recent meeting with her ex-husband, Lamar Odom.
“Should I call Kris Humphries?” Kim asked, which prompted Khloé to joke, “Get all the ex-husbands on here.”
Kim rarely speaks about her short marriage to Kris, but this moment showed her ability to blend humor with reflection on a time that was undoubtedly complicated and emotional.
