The Board of Governors of the bar has worked diligently to address issues affecting Nevada’s practice of law. We hear that members are still not civil with their colleagues, which can have a negative impact on attorney wellbeing. The board adopted a Creed of Professionalism and Civility that the Civility Taskforce prepared in January.

The creed’s twenty points outline the principles that will be used to resolve disputes peacefully, efficiently, and rationally. Incivility can delay and sometimes deny justice. These standards are in keeping with the spirit of Rules of Professional Conduct. They balance a lawyer’s obligation of protecting and pursuing a client’s legitimate interests zealously within the limits of the law while maintaining a professional and courteous attitude towards all people in the legal system.

All Nevada attorneys are asked to review and adhere to the creed’s spirit and letter. These standards should be reinforced in courtrooms by judges to strengthen our obligation to uphold and foster them. You can access the creed on the bar’s website.
