American Airlines has implemented a nationwide ground stop as a result of a ‘technical issue’ occurring on Christmas Eve.
American Airlines announced a significant “technical issue” impacting all flights on Tuesday, coinciding with the holiday travel surge for many Americans. An advisory from the Air Traffic Control System Command Center indicated that the airline implemented a nationwide ground stop on Christmas Eve.
#”We are currently facing a technical issue affecting all American Airlines flights,” the airline communicated via X. “Your safety is our highest priority, and we will ensure you are safely on your way to your destination once this matter is resolved.”
“Our team is diligently working to address this situation,” the airline stated in a follow-up post. “While we do not have an estimated timeframe for resolution, efforts are being made to rectify the issue as quickly as possible.” The airline has not provided further details regarding the nature of the problem. The Federal Aviation Administration also offered limited information, stating, “American Airlines is reporting a technical issue and has requested a nationwide ground stop. For more information, please contact American Airlines,” according to their statement.
As of 7:10 a.m., DownDetector reported 1,979 outages related to American Airlines, a platform that tracks issues and outages across various services.
