Baker Mayfield Faces Legal Battle Over $12 Million Dispute with Family Business.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield, 29, is embroiled in an ongoing legal dispute with his family in Austin, Texas. On November 22, Mayfield’s legal team filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court, claiming that Camwood Capital Management Group, owned by his father James W. Mayfield, violated a settlement agreement.

The agreement stipulated that Camwood owed Mayfield more than $12 million in repayment, but according to the lawsuit, the company has failed to meet its obligations.

The legal action follows a request for financial records dating back to 2018. Mayfield’s attorneys sought detailed documents from Camwood to understand how funds were allocated, as well as oral depositions from key witnesses. The lawsuit centers around a “confidential settlement and release agreement” that was finalized in January 2024.

The agreement included three primary obligations: the repayment of $11.7 million (plus interest), the refinancing of an existing loan, and access to Camwood’s financial records.

However, the lawsuit alleges that none of these terms have been fulfilled. “To date, Camwood Capital has not repaid even one dollar under the Settlement Agreement,” the legal filing states. The lawsuit claims that between 2018 and 2021, $12.2 million was transferred from Mayfield to Camwood affiliates without his consent, allegedly to cover operational expenses for various subsidiaries.

In total, Mayfield is seeking “no less than” $11.74 million, plus interest, attorney fees, and additional relief. His legal team argues that the money was improperly used, and the funds provided no ownership or equity interests for Mayfield in the companies involved, such as Texas Contract Manufacturing Group and Unitech Tool and Machine Inc.
