Black Doves Season 2: Burning Questions We Need Answered, Including the Mystery Woman’s Identity.
It’s quite rare for a show to be granted a second season before the first one has even premiered, but Netflix’s Black Doves has certainly earned it.
Here’s all the latest information about the upcoming season two, including details about the mysterious woman revealed in the finale.
This article contains spoilers for season one. It’s not every day that a series gets renewed for a second season prior to its debut, but that’s exactly what has happened with Netflix’s Black Doves, and it’s easy to see why. The show has quickly climbed to the top of Netflix’s charts, captivating viewers with its thrilling storyline. Personally, I found it so engaging that I binge-watched the entire season in one sitting—I just had to find out what happened to Helen and Sam! Knowing that a second season was already on the way made the experience even better. So, what can we look forward to in season two? The first season ended on a particularly intense note.
Helen Webb (played by Keira Knightley) embarks on a personal quest for vengeance to uncover who killed her partner, Jason (Andrew Koji). In a dramatic confrontation with London crime lord Alex Clark (Tracey Ullman), she discovers that it was Alex’s son, Trent (Angus Cooper), who orchestrated the hit on Jason, as well as on Maggie and Phillip, all to hide his involvement in the accidental death of Ambassador Chen during a heated dispute.
In the end, it’s Sam (Ben Whishaw) who takes the decisive action, not Helen. Rather than escaping the world of assassins, Sam finds himself further entangled in its shadows, a choice that could lead to repercussions from the remaining members of the Clark family. Another lingering mystery is the true identity of Jason. In the series finale, Reed (Sarah Lancashire) hands Helen a hard drive containing crucial information about Jason’s real identity.
However, Helen chooses not to examine its contents and instead discards it into the River Thames. Will we uncover more about him in the second season? Could his true intentions come back to trouble Helen? It’s possible. The most urgent question remains: who was the enigmatic woman with Reed in her apartment on Christmas Day? After some investigation and rewatching episodes, it appears that this mysterious blonde is Marie, the Webbs’ nanny. She also seems to be a Black Dove working for Reed, keeping tabs on Helen, which would explain Reed’s extensive knowledge of Helen’s relationship with Jason. The upcoming season might delve deeper into Marie’s covert activities.
The clever and lighthearted assassin pair, Williams and Eleanor, also found a sort of happy ending in the season one finale of Black Doves. They not only make it through the intense confrontation with the Clarks but also gain a new ally: Ambassador Chen’s daughter, Kai-Ming (Isabella Wei). The final scene features the trio enjoying the Christmas holidays together on Eleanor’s canal boat, sharing drinks and laughter. Could they become an assassin trio?
Joe Barton, the writer of Black Doves, certainly hopes so. “You can definitely envision them forming a little team,” he shared with Netflix’s Tudum. “Kai-Ming would need to move past her party girl lifestyle and heroin addiction, though. Perhaps they could establish their own assassin agency right from their canal boat. I’d love to see that.” One thing is certain: Helen will continue as a Black Dove, especially with her husband, Wallace, on the path to becoming the next UK prime minister. As Wallace’s career advances, it adds more pressure and danger to her role as a spy. “Just witnessing that tension, especially with Sam back in London… I’d love to see more interactions between Eleanor, Williams, and Kai-Ming, and throw them into more dangerous and challenging situations,” Barton added. And we’re eager to see that unfold in the next season as well.
