Jamie Foxx Compares Diddy to the Devil in Netflix Special, Recounts Near-Death Stroke Experience.
In an emotional Netflix special, What Had Happened Was…, Jamie Foxx, 56, gave a striking recount of his near-death experience, which included an intense brain bleed and stroke that left him fighting for his life. During the show, Foxx delivered a surprising and humorous moment when he compared music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs to the devil while reflecting on his medical crisis.
The Oscar-winning actor and comedian began by describing the haunting sensation of being caught in a “hot tunnel” during his health emergency. “Your life doesn’t flash before your face, it was kind of oddly peaceful… I saw the tunnel, but I didn’t see the light. It was hot in that tunnel. I thought, ‘Am I in the wrong place?'” Foxx shared with a captivated Atlanta audience. “I looked at the end of the tunnel, and I thought I saw the devil saying, ‘Come on… or was that Puffy?'”
Foxx quickly lightened the mood, laughing it off and jokingly adding, “I’m f—ing around. But if that was Puffy, he had a flaming bottle of Johnson and… no, I’m just kidding.” His comedic delivery of the story had the audience roaring with laughter, but behind the humor, he touched on the very real trauma of his near-death experience.
The special aired following Foxx’s harrowing 2023 medical crisis, which occurred while filming Back in Action alongside Cameron Diaz. Foxx had reportedly experienced a headache, which soon turned into a severe health issue that left him unable to walk. Doctors discovered a brain bleed, and Foxx underwent immediate surgery to save his life.
Foxx was visibly emotional as he expressed gratitude for his sister, Deirdre Dixon, who he credits with saving his life. “My sister took me to the hospital when no one else would listen,” he recalled. “She said, ‘Something’s wrong with my brother.’ That was the moment that made the difference.”
At the hospital, the doctors confirmed that Foxx was suffering from a brain bleed, which resulted in a stroke. Without immediate intervention, he could have lost his life. “If I don’t go in his head right now, you’re going to lose him,” Foxx recounted the doctor saying.
Foxx, known for his larger-than-life comedic persona, shared how he couldn’t recall anything from the next 20 days of his life. Upon waking up, he found himself in a wheelchair and physically impaired. However, he expressed his determination to recover, emphasizing how difficult the road ahead would be. “That’s what it was, Atlanta,” Foxx remarked, acknowledging the city where the medical drama unfolded.
The comedian also took lighthearted jokes at other public figures, including Diddy, during his stand-up. In a cheeky moment, Foxx joked about internet rumors that suggested Diddy might have been involved in his illness. “The internet was trying to kill me, saying Puffy was trying to kill me,” he quipped. “Hell no, I left those parties early. Something didn’t look right!”
Jamie Foxx is widely known for his remarkable ability to impersonate people, which is one of his standout talents. Throughout his career, Foxx has showcased his skills as an impressionist, often doing spot-on impressions of famous figures. For example: Denzel Washington, Mike Tyson, Dave Chappelle, Jay-Z and President Donald Trump.
