Kanye West, 47,the rapper and entrepreneur known for his controversial statements and actions, has recently revealed that he no longer identifies with his previous bipolar diagnosis. Instead, West now asserts that he is autistic, a condition he believes was misdiagnosed as bipolar disorder in 2016.

In a conversation on The Download with Justin Laboy, West explained how his wife, Bianca Censori, 30, played a key role in urging him to seek a different diagnosis. “My wife took me because she said, ‘Something about your personality doesn’t feel like it’s bipolar, I’ve seen bipolar before.’ And come to find out, it’s really a case of autism that I have,” West shared.

Previously, Kanye West had accepted his bipolar diagnosis and even referred to it as his “superpower” on his 2018 album ye. However, he has now shifted his perspective, describing how the new diagnosis has provided clarity regarding his behavior.

West went on to explain the impact of his new diagnosis: “Autism takes you to a Rain Man thing,” he said, referencing the 1988 film about a man with autism who has remarkable abilities. He compared his actions, such as his unwavering support for former President Donald Trump, to the traits often associated with autism. “‘Oh man, I’ma wear this Trump hat because I like Trump in general.’ And then when people tell you to not do it, you just get on that one point. And that’s my problem,” he stated.

West also revealed that, since discovering the correct diagnosis, he has stopped taking his bipolar medication, believing it was hindering his creativity. “I haven’t taken the medication since I found out it wasn’t bipolar, that it wasn’t the right diagnosis. It’s finding stuff that doesn’t block the creativity, obviously that’s what I bring to the world,” West explained.

His comments have sparked a mix of reactions. For some, they may serve as a reminder to seek professional help and avoid self-diagnosis. The others may view these statements as a potential excuse for West’s controversial behavior, including his social media outbursts and antisemitic remarks.
