Attorney At Law Magazine interviewed Nima Emadian about his career and the philosophy that he and his partner brought into their firm.

AALM How did you meet your law partner? What made you decide to start a business together?

NE My business partner and I met in high school. We have been best friends ever since. At this point, I consider him more like a brother than a close friend. We both took the LSAT together and attended law school together. Since we both wanted to go to law school, our dream was to own a law practice together.

AALMTell MOET Law Group about the origins of your firm’s name. Does it come from champagne?

NEHahaha, people always ask this. The typical law firm names were drawn out of long last names that no one could remember or pronounce. We took the initials of each of our last names, and combined them to create MOET. This is Moghadam and Etemadian.

AALM What first attracted you to a career in law?

NEWhen I was younger, the image of a well-dressed woman or man with a strong presence and brilliant articulation was what captured my attention about the idea of becoming a lawyer. This image of a lawyer was what I saw when I first thought about it. That is what I found most intriguing about being a lawyer. You should now see how lawyers dress and talk in court.

AALM Tell us about mentors and best advice you received during your career.

NEMentors have been the only reason our company has grown exponentially in just a few years. A mentor once said to me, “Your success is not determined by how many cases you bring in but how many you reject.” This was something that really struck me. Lawyers may believe that more cases are better. However, it could not be further from the truth. Our success has been dependent on our ability to assess cases and communicate openly with potential clients.

AALM How is your current career different from what you imagined when you attended Thomas Jefferson School of Law.

NE I have always believed in myself and what it is possible to achieve. I knew I would become something extraordinary. One thing I couldn’t imagine was how fast I would achieve the success that I have achieved. Pre-law school, during and post-law school, my actions aligned with the goals I set.

AALM When choosing a practice area, what attracted you to criminal defense, personal injury, and DUI?

NE I had several internships during law school with DUI/criminal defense attorneys so I knew that this was something I could do right after law school. I was also interested in becoming a civil litigator attorney. The criminal defense aspect of our practice allowed us transition into personal injury while still maintaining cash flow. Criminal defense is typically a flat-fee service, while civil litigation and personal injury are contingency-based.

AALM Tell us about a case which changed your career, your practice of law or your outlook.

NEThat’s a difficult question. Instead, I’d rather say that each case is unique. Every case is like a game of chess. My team and I play it together and strategize to ensure the client’s success. Every case has taught me a lot about myself and helped me become the kind of lawyer I am today. They have all changed my life, no matter how small or large.

AALMDoes your practice have a mantra or philosophy?

NEYes. Customer service is my number one priority at my office. My team and I constantly remind them that we are a customer service-based business FIRST before we can practice law. My number one priority is client experience. This is a result of the many horrible stories I’ve heard and the experience they had with other law firms. We set out to make our clients’ experience exceptional and unique.

AALM Tell us about your life outside of work.

NE I love sports. I play basketball and soccer a few times per week. Since I was a kid, sports have been my therapy. This is why I have a competitive spirit in dealing with my clients’ cases. We are determined to win and will do everything necessary!
