Procopio Managing Partner John D. Alessio dies at 55
John D. Alessio died on September 3, 2024, at the age of 55, following a five-year battle with cancer.
He was first elected as the Managing Partner of Procopio in the autumn of 2017 and reelected on two occasions, successfully led the law firm during an extraordinary phase of expansion and achievement, steering the firm through global pandemic and a swiftly changing legal marketplace.
Throughout his leadership period, Procopio achieved multiple recognitions from Chambers and Partners, along with various peer-reviewed awards notably tripling its practice recognitions from Best Lawyers – Best Law Firms.
John D. Alessio demonstrated his commitment to community in many ways, committed time to supporting the wider local cross-border community. He was a co-founder of Red Autismo, a nonprofit organization based in Los Cabos that offers support to children with autism.
He received acknowledgment from the San Diego Business Journal by being included in its SD 500 list, which highlights the Most Influential Business Leaders in San Diego.
In 2020, the publication honoured him by placing him on its SD 50 list of Leaders Making a Difference.
John is survived by his wife, Sofia Alessio, who is a retired tax attorney; his daughters, Paulina Alessio, currently a sophomore in college and Andrea Alessio, a senior in high school; his mother, Katherine Alessio; as well as his siblings and their spouses: Dominique Alessio Nielander and Stephen Nielander, Elise Alessio Norman and Roger Norman, and Ashley Alessio Muncey and Edward Muncey.
