On Thursday, 3 November, the lawsuit was filed at the US District Court in Northern California. This came as word broke of a mass layoff wave that would follow on Friday. These layoffs are part of Elon Musk’s plan to reduce costs and eliminate 3,700 employees, which would represent half of the company’s total workforce.
Many Twitter employees posted on the social media platform that they found out they were fired after realizing they couldn’t log in to their email accounts or laptops at work.
Emmanuel Cornet and the other plaintiffs in the class-action lawsuit claim that they were terminated without written notice, which is a violation both of US and California law.
Twitter has asked many of the sacked employees to come back since the mass layoffs began. While some employees were let go accidentally, others were determined to have the knowledge needed for Musk’s new features.
