Board certification is the highest level of evaluation by The Florida Bar of an attorney’s competence, experience and professionalism in areas of law that have been approved for specialization. The Florida Bar has high standards that lawyers must meet to be certified in any of the 27 law areas approved by the Florida Supreme Court. Only 7% out of all Florida lawyers are board certified.
Pelaez, a Shareholder of the Firm’s Maritime, Insurance and Commercial Litigation Practice Groups, is an expert in defending cruise ships in high-exposure litigation and private arbitrations involving catastrophic injuries, wrongful deaths, overboard incidents, claims for medical malpractice, negligent security and claims for overservice alcohol, and claims by crewmembers. He also represents clients from the marine industry in cases involving contract disputes, property damage claims and personal injury claims for passengers and crew. He conducts on-site, casualty investigation for his marine and cruise clients. This is often done in conjunction with ongoing investigations by the U.S. Coast Guard, other state and federal agencies, and concurrent investigations.
