You are at risk of getting hurt or sick working on an oil rig, or in an office. While some jobs are more dangerous than others, we asked our readers to share their thoughts on the most dangerous. You can read the responses of these business leaders below.

Construction tops the list

According to our research in Southern California, construction injuries are the most prevalent cause of workplace injury. This is based on the number of clients who come to our office seeking legal assistance. I find it not surprising that the construction industry is the most likely to sustain workplace injuries.

We have seen many examples of work-related injuries in the construction industry. These include scaffolding falls, struck by accidents, caught between accidents, electricity accidents and power tool accidents. Asbestos exposure is another example. This includes work-related driving injuries. The largest proportion of permanent disabilities cases is also attributed to construction.

Textile Industry – Warehouse Division

Despite our best efforts to stay safe in all industries, it’s not always possible when we work with sophisticated equipment that could injure us. Construction, agriculture, forestry and manufacturing are the industries with the highest injuries.

My experience has shown me that the textile industry is the most dangerous for workplace injuries, especially in the warehouse section. Ironically, many workplace injuries could have been prevented if people paid more attention to their surroundings and avoided straining their bodies when lifting heavy objects.

Slips and falls are two of the most common injuries in our warehouse. It is easy to accidentally drop Styrofoam or plastic packaging onto the floor and cause your coworkers to slip and fall. Some warehouse workers have suffered serious injuries from incorrectly operating forklifts and moving heavy goods without supervision. This has resulted in strains to their backs, necks and knees.

Three Dangerous Jobs Families

Protective Service

Every day, security service workers are in danger. This category also includes security guards and lifeguards. This is why these workers are at high risk of being injured by wildfires and snipers as well as dangerous waters and other hazards. This occupation has a 298/10,000 annual incidence.

Transport and material moving

For many jobs, including shelf stockers and movers, heavy lifting is necessary. It is possible to sustain work-related injuries like sprains and broken limbs. These include taxi and bus drivers who might be injured on the road, flight attendants, who have to walk around moving aircrafts, and tractor-trailer or crane operators who operate with dangerous machinery. This sector has a 235/10,000 rate of incidence.

Grounds and building cleaning and maintenance

Building and repair can lead to many bodily injuries including broken bones and exposures to toxic substances. Cleaning can often involve damp flooring, unstable areas, or messes. Inhaling dangerous chemicals and mold can cause falls, slippage, or even stumbling. The industry has a rate of 233 injuries per 10,000 employees.

Manufacturing Industry

This industry includes heavy machinery, manual handling and maintenance. These are the most common manufacturing-related injuries:

Exposure To Toxic Substances

Exposure to toxic chemicals can cause skin irritations in workers, such as industrial dermatitis or breathing problems.

Injuries to machinery

Poor machinery management and mechanical flaws can cause serious accidents such as fractures, first-degree burns, concussions, death, and/or second-degree burns.

Handling injuries

Manufacturing often involves monotonous tasks and heavy object movements. This can lead to injuries as employees take awkward positions to lift, carry and pull heavy objects. Oder through repetitive movement of arms and legs, which can lead to injury.

Construction, Mining, and Sports

Mining

The mining industry is one of the most dangerous industries. It can cause serious injuries to the life and health of workers. These include workers in the oil rigs and coal mining. Mining sites are an unusual type of workplace. These workers are at risk of serious health problems due to dangerous toxins that they inhale while digging for coal or other minerals.

Underground workers often work multiple shifts at once. Their lungs are severely affected by the low oxygen levels. Other than that, accidents underground can also cause physical injuries to workers, such as boulders falling onto them.

Construction

The construction industry can also be harsh on workers. Similar to the mining industry, workers are exposed to heavy-duty transport and machinery as well as pollution. Common tragic accidents that occur while construction workers are often in the news include falling from high buildings while they work on them.

Sports

Last but not least, athletes in the sport industry aren’t as well-off as the workers in the other industries. Every gameday, athletes in contact sports like soccer, basketball, and football are at risk of serious life-threatening or career-threatening injuries. Many soccer players have overworked in practice and in games, which has led to muscular and other problems. Impact/collision injuries can be fatal on multiple occasions.

Many times overlooked administrative and computer-heavy fields

Computer and mathematical industry

This sector includes programmers, computer-trained professionals and mathematicians. They are often very energetic and put a lot of effort behind the computer screen or work area. Strain, plate wounds, carpal tunnel syndrome, and strain are all common injuries.

Monetary and business industries

Administrators, credit officers, and charge preparers are all part of the business and monetary task industries. Many of these jobs are located in the workplace. This means that almost 8,000 cases of work-related injuries occurred in 2017.

Engineering and Architecture

Engineers can be creative. However, engineers are not only at risk from PC-related strain. Some of the keys to success (e.g. surgical blades used for models) may also pose danger. There are many risks involved in building site visits.

Metalworking and Metallurgy

The most common work-related injuries and accidents are in the metalworking and metallurgical industries. There are many accident risks, including falls from height, injuries, electric shocks and bruises. The most dangerous is electrocution. Electricity is the most commonly used energy source for industrial processes. This includes the operation of a blast oven and simple compressors.

The incidence of work accidents involving shocks does not only affect employees who work with the electrical system.

The main sources of shocks in this industry are contact with uninsulated sources, bare wires, and improper entry to high voltage locations. They can cause dizziness, muscle contractions, loss of consciousness, burns, and tingling. The worker may also be at risk depending on how intense the current is.

Logistics and Transportation

The logistics and transportation industry is without doubt one of the most dangerous industries for workplace injuries. Workers in logistics and transportation are at risk of falling heavy objects on their heads when transporting or handling these items. However, most of the incidents in this sector occur while operating motor vehicles.

Accidents can happen anywhere in transportation. They can be caused by indifference or other factors like weather and road damage. According to the authorities, approximately 1,000 injuries are sustained in transportation and logistics each year. This makes it one of most dangerous industries.

Construction, Zoological, Health Care, and Agriculture

The following industries have the highest incidence of workplace injuries:

Construction

Due to the management of its work, the construction industry has always been the top-ranking industrial sector for most deaths. Many workers are killed on the job after falling from heights or being trapped under heavy loads.

Zoo, Agricultural parks

When caring for animals in an agricultural park or zoo, animal caretakers are at risk of being injured. If proper management isn’t done and precautions not taken, wild animals could inflict injuries on workers caring for them.

Health care

Many health care workers can get an infection from patients while treating them. Many nurses and doctors died or suffered injuries while caring for patients during covid times. Doctors and other healthcare workers were trying to save patients’ lives and perform their duties.

Installation, maintenance, and repair fields

Installation, maintenance and repair are the most dangerous industries for workplace injuries. Workers often have to climb on roofs or be suspended from telephone poles. Many workers are at risk from electrical shocks, toxins, fatal cuts, slips and falls, as well as the danger of being injured by unpredictable weather.
